How to Overcome Common Challenges in Site Design

When looking at anything on the internet today, you need to thank about the massive time, work, and effort that goes into creating a unique web site or blog and making data for it almost data. With more than a billion active websites and blogs online, this is something many people tend to forget about, but it’s a process that is happening daily.

With this in mind, the last thing you want to is to start a new website from scratch and then give upright when you start seeing new problems or obstacles in your way. This is often just a side thought for users of WordPress, as it’s pretty much a free CMS that makes the process of going live with your site just a few clicks of the button.

I previously wrote an article on some tips web designers can give to their clients to minimize challenges down the road. I felt I should follow up on this with some additional tips. You can find some more below.

Tip 1: Make Sure Customers Understand the Importance of Choosing the Right Title

When coming up with a new title for your web site or recent articles, it’s important to not just write for the search engines but to write as if real people are going to be visiting your site. A perfect example of this would be if you were to write a letter to a friend or family. You wouldn’t write it with a bunch of keywords, but instead real content and focus.

You need to make sure that you clients understand the importance of choosing the right title with their webpages. Unfortunately, many clients are oddly stubborn about wanting to use their own titles. They are even pickier about them than they are most of the more visible design elements.

You need a response to convince customers to use your titles. I’ll give you an analogy to illustrate the customer’s concern and your respective response. Imagine that you have a car rental business and that this service is only offered in Boston.

The most normal is that you have a section where you show your catalog of available cars, well, although you like very much as the title: “Our cars”, I will try to convince you that it is much better to put as h1: “Cars for rent in Boston”.

We do this explanation with this same example many times.

Tip 2: Make sure customers understand that web page copy is created to drive traffic and conversions

With billions of people getting on the internet today, it’s important to make sure you know who your target audience is, what they are looking for, and how you can provide it to them. Without these measures in place, your site is just another piece of junk on the internet just adding clutter to the mix.

Longer webpages tend to rank better in Google, which drives more conversions. Unfortunately, many customers are reluctant to use them.

Here is a common response we see on almost a daily basis:

“It’s just too long.” “I just don’t like the sound of it.” “I can also rent it to a client in Toledo, and he’ll think I don’t…”

Of course, your customers have the right to put the title they want to this and the rest of sections of their website. However, they need to know not come to you later with that your website does not appear in Google!

Normally web designers ask their customers to give all the information they have, but the designers usually give this advice to those customers who already have a website and have huge text blocks in all sections on all sections on their website.

We recently had a customer in the teaching space say the following:

“Ok I understand perfectly, don’t worry, I have very clear what I have to say because it’s true that in the old web there was too much text…”

Now, when it comes to actually writing the content for your site, you need to make sure it’s written in a format and language that people are going to enjoy ready. A perfect example of this would be the article you are reading right now. It’s laid out into sections and shorter sentences, which makes the whole reading process more enjoyable.

A week after the delivery of the website, when we check how everything is going we find the festival of color and typographic multiracialism…

Tip 3: Make sure customers don’t get too carried away with aesthetics

Many people care more about the aesthetics of their website than its functionality. You need to communicate the importance of a design that works, rather than one that merely looks pretty. This is why you need sound design elements, like the ones covered in this YouTube video on Mighty Deals fonts.

You may have a customer that says something like this:

“It’s just that it was getting dull, that’s why I asked you to make it a manageable website because I like to put different colors and fonts on it.

I like it much better that way because the one you made me look very serious…”

“Let’s wait until you’re sure you’re going to write before opening your blog. It’s better not to have a blog than to have it dreary and give a bad image, go write a couple of articles and we’ll talk”

Another common response from marketers and brands are:

“No no no put it on while we’re at it, let the web be complete (eye). Besides, I’m sure I’ll write, you’ve already explained to me how important it is…”

How to Deal with Common Site Building Issues

Having a website or blog is really great, but it can also be very frustrating when trying to fix something that you just can’t figure out.

Be sure to run through each of the common scenarios above and see which might apply to your site or business. The faster you can get them solved, the better off you will be.

HOW USER CENTERED DESIGN CAN HELP SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS WEBSITES

The vast majority of small business owners are providing products or services in areas other than website design and effectiveness. As such, they are at the mercy of their web designers and developers to create an online presence for their company that is effective and successful at enticing its visitors to perform desired actions. In order to take control and provide higher chances of online success, small business owners might consider employing the principles of user-centered Design (UCD).

A general overview of UCD is such that the user is the focus of determining how their needs, wants and even their limitations are the primary focus driving the decision-making process of the design. Many professional web designers fail to understand this concept, much less employ it in their workflow. If those you’re paying to come up with effective websites for your company are not even considering using UCD, you might want to take the lead and find someone or a service that will help you in the endeavor.

Understand the Users

When it comes to the design of your website, understanding what your users are doing is definitely an important aspect of online operations. The challenge, however, is that this type of metrics, also known as analytics, can only tell you what has happened:

– How many visitors came to your home page?

– Where did those visitors come from search engine results pages, email newsletter links, deep links on other websites, etc

– How long did the visitor stay at your site?

– How many pages did they view while they were there?

Again, this information is well and good, but even with the metrics you just don’t have the insight into what was going through the visitors’ mind.

Why They Do What They Do

This brings up the value of understanding why your website visitors do what they do. user-centered Design is just the vehicle you need in order to gain knowledge and understanding of that “why”. The more you understand how UCD works, the easier it will be for you to learn what areas of your website can positively (or negatively) affect the visitor’s experience. Once you have this type of knowledge, you can make iterative changes which then allow you to further cement the user experience. Even if you’re not sure about your own presentation techniques, knowing the requirements and putting the user first can go a long way.

The Value of UCD Service

A quality UCD service will help you understand the intangible aspects of how a visitor uses your website. Often times there’s nothing more than a frustrated thought passing through the users’ mind. No click or time on page is likely to help you understand that emotion. But with UCD you might have the chance to watch a video of test users as they make their way through your online pages. Note a disgruntled sigh, or observe the slightest eye roll at the same time a user is attempting to navigate through your site, and you have a much clearer idea of where a problem could exist. You’d never get that depth of insight with a tally of the number of times a user made it through a page (via clicking on navigation links.)

Overall, when you decide to design your small business website with UCD techniques you’ll be able to make positive changes, faster. These changes help to support your business’ online goals and provide you with the justification for making otherwise hard decisions.

The best news is that you don’t have to be an expert in design or have a doctorate in user psychology in order to take advantage of these concepts. There are services available in the marketplace that excel in providing small to medium-sized businesses with the capabilities to do much, if not all the research and development online. If your online success depends upon the actions of your website visitors, why not take the time to find an effective and reasonably priced user-centered design service as soon as you can. Your bottom line will surely thank you!

Things to Look For In a Web Designing Company Sydney

Web designers are in high demand as designing is the art that not everybody can master. It requires good approach, sharp thinking and closer assessment of the prevailing trends so that the end result – the website – offers correct as well as time-relevant representation for the business in the online world. So, when you look for web designers in Sydney, make a mental note of the following points:

  • Result-oriented design:

At the end of the day, any website means business. It is a way to reach to the broader audiences and nail the prospective leads right at the time of shopping for the product options. So, the design that conveys the message clearly, offers a crisper presentation of the product offering and encourages leads to place orders is the one that is sure to yield results. Take a look at the portfolio of the web designers and follow the success stories to make a decision.

  • User-friendly CMS:

Any website owner would love to own the website in the true sense and feel good about it too. The designer should use such content scripting type that allows the owner to make changes on the own. Whether it is the ever-growing catalog uploading or putting new CTAs, the owner should be able to do all this without an expert intervention.

  • One stop solution:

The designers should be able to develop and improve all portions of the website. The same set of designers working on the tasks like logo designing, graphics, imaging etc can help to bring uniformity to the overall look of the website. Also, the owner need not run from one designer to another to get the final offering on the table before the deadline.

  • Conforming to the present trends:

A website is expected to bridge the gap between the consumer perception and product’s offering. By trendier look, one does not mean funky colors and extravagant appeal. The correct understanding of user behavior and their attitude towards the website usage, etc are the points that should be known and grasped well by the web designers. For example, the present trend belongs to single page applications, clearer CTAs, e-commerce and so on. The designer should create something that comprises all these features, yet has a simple and correct appeal.

  • Dedicated as well as affordable:

Every web designer should work dedicatedly for a client’s website. He should be well- aware of the business process and should be available always to tackle any kind of technical or user-oriented issues likely to arise after the launch.

Also, the web designer should be able to offer value in every penny charged. His charges, sky high, will only add to the business cost. So, plan the budget well and then search for the web designer suitable to the affordability.

Web designers in Sydney are likely to share an appreciably long relationship with the clients. Thus, their ability to understand the vision and believe in it is equally important. Also, professionalism and perfection in work are two important virtues that one should look for web designing experts in Sydney. In addition, the responsible customer support adds icing to the cake. So, search for these pointers in your web designer and you two are sure to make a great team.
